History of Dry Creek Baptist Church
Dry Creek first existed as a church in 1890. When the church burned in 1902, some members began attending Pine Grove Church until the organization of Dry Creek Baptist Church on February 19, 1915. There were 21 charter members who held services once a month in a 30' X 38' one room wooden school/church. Eastman Gardner & Co. donated one acre of land in 1914 for this purpose. The pastor's pay was $50.00 per year and was raised to $100.00 per year in 1923. The total value of the church property was $600.00
Dry Creek joined Strong River Baptist Association in 1920. It wasn't until 1947 that Dry Creek joined Simpson County Baptist Association. During the first revival meeting which began July 24, 1915, an offering of $18.90 was collected to pay the preacher. The church was meeting on the 1st and 3rd Sundays each month. The church began having services twice on Sundays and holding Wednesday night service in 1940.
Three structures have housed Dry Creek Baptist Church. The Old church was replaced in 1942 with a larger 60' X 30' wooden structure that had a dirt floor. The building was remodeled and bricked in 1961 and a concrete floor was poured. There was a Sunday School room on either side of the front entrance. This same year we began having services every Sunday. A parsonage was built in 1965. the present sanctuary was built beside the second structure in 1982 and was renovated in 2002. The second structure was later torn down and a two-story educational building was built in its place. The parking lot was paved in 1985 and a Family Life Center was built in 1987.
Over the years a Sunday School, Discipleship training and Mission groups were organized. Vacation Bible School has been a summer event for many years and is still a major part of our church. A mission offering of $154.04 was given in 1926. At present, we have mission teams reaching out to Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, Haiti, as well as taking advantage of many local mission opportunities. Property value has increased to more than $500,000 and at this time Dry Creek Baptist Church is debt free.
God has blessed Dry Creek Baptist Church throughout its history. The evidence of His blessing has been obvious and continues to this day. For all that He has done and is yet to do - "To God be the glory".
