Jesus tells the story of a young man who decided to leave home, and he asked his father for his share of the inheritance. It wasn't long before the young man had squandered all that his father had given him. Having fallen on hard times due to the poor choices he made, he soon found himself feeding pigs for a farmer and literally starving to death. One day it dawned on him that he could go home and perhaps his father would hire him as a servant. At least then he would have food to eat. “So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him.” Luke 15:20 NLT
Maybe you've been there, or chances are you know someone who has wandered away from God. Someone you're praying for...someone who needs to come home. The heart of the message from Jesus' story is not so much that of a lost son as it is of a loving father. All the young man had to do was take the first step toward home, then when his father saw him, he ran to embrace his son.
Do you remember the day that God ran to you? Or, maybe God is waiting for you to take the first step toward home.
There's a song on video by Phillips, Craig and Dean titled "When God Ran" that tells the story. It's worth the time to watch.
