We have all been created for relationship. Relationship with God the Father and with one another. We need both God and people in our lives. The church provides that possibility.
From the very beginning, Christianity was not primarily a “doctrine" to be be taught, but a “community" in which to live. There was not only a "message" to be proclaimed and delivered, and "Good News" to be declared, but there was a New Community to which members were called and recruited.
Church is not about “attending” in order to watch and listen to what others are saying or doing; it’s about becoming a part of a community.
Listen to what Paul says in Ephesians 2:19: “So now you Gentiles are no longer strangers and foreigners. You are citizens along with all of God’s holy people. You are members of God’s family.”
Church membership is an important commitment because it is a tangible expression of a life that is surrendered to Jesus Christ.
This Is My Church . . .
A church is never stronger than the commitment of its members to one another and to the purposes of that church.
