“Whatever happens, my dear brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord..." Philippians 3:1 NLT
How do you maintain a joyful attitude in your life? Paul says whatever happens, be joyful.
I have to admit I often allow my circumstances to rob me of my joy. I sometimes forget the other two elements that are needed for always being joyful.
Never stop praying. Constant communication with God is opening up every aspect of my life to the one who not only gave me life, but sustains it as well. This requires an intentional effort on my part - choosing to not allow my circumstances to distract me from the one who helps me overcome my circumstances through an attitude of joy.
The second key to always being joyful is found in giving thanks in all circumstances. Let's face it, there are simply those times when that seems impossible to do until I remember one thing: Jesus said, “...And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:20 NLT
When I recognize the presence of Christ in the middle of whatever circumstance I find myself, there is an immediate shift to an attitude of gratitude which is accompanied with a spirit of joy. I am not alone.
“Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 NLT
Because Jesus is there, you can find joy in the moment no matter what the moment brings.
