“Taking the twelve disciples aside, Jesus said, “Listen, we’re going up to Jerusalem, where all the predictions of the prophets concerning the Son of Man will come true. He will be handed over to the Romans, and he will be mocked, treated shamefully, and spit upon. They will flog him with a whip and kill him, but on the third day he will rise again.” But they didn’t understand any of this. The significance of his words was hidden from them, and they failed to grasp what he was talking about.” Luke 18:31-34 NLT
Jesus knew what was coming and He tried to explain it to those closest to Him, but they didn't get it. They couldn't grasp anything beyond their own thoughts and ideas...a kingdom was to be established...Jesus would rule. The idea of Jesus as a sacrifice for their own sins was no where in their concept of what was to come.
As believers we can look back and understand what Jesus was explaining to the disciples. However, there are still many in the world today that don't know...can't see it...don't really care.
He knew His purpose...His destiny...God's plan.
His life was a journey to the cross with you in mind.
“And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.” John 17:19 NLT
