So then, any of you who does not forsake (renounce, surrender claim to, give up, say good-bye to) all that he has cannot be My disciple. (Luke 14:33 AMP)
A few years back Teri and I started Simple Life Ministries, and I spent several months making wooden crosses to sell at arts & crafts shows to help with our financial support. The first event we participated in was considered one of the largest and best shows in the southeast. After building displays, paying a significant entry fee and traveling about 250 miles, we arrived at the event full of hope and expectation, which quickly turned to disappointment. We sold only 3 crosses and lost a significant amount of money.
We had two more events lined up and tried not to allow our disappointment to rob us of our hope. The next event was local, but considered to be another large and significant show. However, about 4 hours into the event we realized things were not going to be much better. I looked at Teri and half-jokingly said, "maybe we're supposed to give them away". No sooner had I made the statement than a lady walked into our booth and was commenting on how much she liked our items. She turned and walked away, and as she did, Teri and I both noticed what was written on the back of her t-shirt. These were the exact words: "Give it All Away". We laughed at first, but quickly realized God was telling us to trust Him.
From that experience we learned that if we let God be God and trust Him, He will provide sufficient for each day. Over the next few months we gave away more crosses than we sold, but as we have stepped out in obedience, God has been faithful to provide just as He promised.
Do you trust God enough to give it all away?
