“For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps."1 Peter 2:21 NLT
We are called to do good and to use Jesus as our example and follow in His steps.
When we look closer at Jesus' teachings, we soon discover the difficulty in fulfilling this calling. We also better understand the possibility of suffering if we are truly obedient to what He is telling us to do.
“But to you who are willing to listen, I say, love your enemies! Do good to those who hate you. Bless those who curse you. Pray for those who hurt you. If someone slaps you on one cheek, offer the other cheek also. If someone demands your coat, offer your shirt also. Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back. Do to others as you would like them to do to you.” Luke 6:27-31 NLT
Alone we do not have the power or the fortitude to display this kind of goodness in our lives. But God has made a provision for help. “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
We have the very power of Christ within us that can produce this kind of goodness if we are willing to access it.
Use the power of the Holy Spirit within you to do good.
Follow in Jesus' steps.
