When difficulties come our way, it's next to impossible to be joyful. Most likely we will find ourselves wallowing in self-pity, sadness and grief.
When we face difficult days that invade our lives from time to time, how can we maintain joy and strength?
“Even though the fig trees have no blossoms, and there are no grapes on the vines; even though the olive crop fails, and the fields lie empty and barren; even though the flocks die in the fields, and the cattle barns are empty, yet I will rejoice in the LORD! I will be joyful in the God of my salvation!” Habakkuk 3:17-18 NLT
How can we move to an "even though" mindset - that predetermination that we will not allow anything to rob us of our joy?
I believe it happens when we move from trying to find and maintain our joy based on our circumstances to realizing our true joy is found in the Lord, and our circumstances are secondary. It's a matter of focus. Am I going to focus on my surroundings or my Savior?
“Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:2-4 NLT
“Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” Philippians 4:4 NLT
