“So fear the LORD and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the LORD alone. But if you refuse to serve the LORD, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.” Joshua 24:14-15 NLT
Who are you serving?
For many, the answer to that question is evidenced by the fact that they are seeking their own best interest, which means they are serving themselves. They seek to meet their own needs first and foremost. They then become satisfied with halfhearted efforts, at best, when it comes to serving the Lord. The pursuit and fulfillment of their own wants and desires become the idols in their lives.
The call and charge that Joshua made to the children of Israel is just as relevant to us today. We are to fear the Lord and serve Him wholeheartedly. We are to serve Him alone. Remember the words of Christ: “Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind." Matthew 22:37 NLT
Wholehearted love for the Lord is demonstrated through wholehearted service.
The choice is ours, and the truth is we make that choice everyday.
Whom do you choose today?
In the words of Joshua, "But as for me and my family, we will serve the LORD.”
